What is your baby’s name?
Work In Progress
Miscarriage, stillbirths, and postpartum loss occur more often than they are spoken.
As a society, the taboos around perinatal (from pregnancy, to a year after birth) loss and grief, and the lack of supportive verbal and emotional language isolate affected women and non-binary folks during a time when they most need the support.
This photography project is borne out of the need to break the silence. In doing so, I hope to create a space where we both honour each baby’s memory, as well as allow for individual stories and and words to come together in acknowledgement of their loss.
It also serves to bring awareness to the gaps in care and support that exist for those experiencing this end of life and transitional space. My goal is to empower women and non-binary folks to speak collectively about their experience of loss. This project will also explore personal grief, and how that grief is affected by society, culture and the passage of time.
The testimonials and photos shared will hopefully provide a better understanding of grief and its role in healing after loss.
